Long Riding Boots

At RB Equestrian, we know that choosing the right riding boots is essential for any horse rider. Our carefully curated selection of long riding boots from top brands like Ariat, Moretta, De Niro and Mountain Horse combines durability, comfort and style, ensuring you have the best gear for riding.

Why Long Riding Boots?

Long riding boots are designed to provide support and protection for your legs while riding. They can also help to keep your legs in the correct position in the stirrup and they give a classic and professional look, meaning they’re great for both casual and competitive riders.

Top tips for Choosing the Right Riding Boots

Perfect Fit: When trying on boots, make sure they are a snug fit as leather boots or boots with elasticated panels will stretch and mould to your legs over time.. When new, the zips on your boots should feel as though they need a little help to do up and if they have an elasticated panel there should be a small bit of pressure on it when they’re done up. If they zip up very easily they may be a bit too loose. On the other hand your new boots shouldn’t feel so tight that you’re worried they’ll cut off your circulation!

Height wise your new boots should sit just below or in-line with the bottom of your knee cap. Once you start riding in your boots you will get wrinkling around the ankles which will cause your boots to ‘drop’. Typically this will be between 1 and 2 centimetres so don’t start off with boots that are too short. If you feel your new boots are a bit too long you could try heel risers which will elongate the back of your legs. This may help make the boots more comfortable to wear while you are waiting for the inevitable drop to happen.

Material Selection: Leather is a popular choice due to its durability and ability to conform to your leg shape. Synthetic materials can also be a great option for their ease of maintenance and water resistance. Many long boots will have elasticated panels alongside the zip to help ensure a really good fit.

Sole Considerations: Make sure your boots have a riding-specific sole. They should be largely smooth with a clear heel to help prevent your stirrup slipping and minimise the chance of your boot getting stuck.

Riding Style: Different riding disciplines may require specific types of boots. For instance, dressage boots are typically stiffer for added leg stability, while jumping boots might offer more flexibility. Choose a style that matches your riding needs.

Comfort Features: Look for boots with cushioned insoles, breathable linings, and convenient closures like zippers or laces. These features can enhance your comfort during long rides and make putting on and taking off your boots easier.
